General

The amount of rewards you get out from this program depends, to a large extend, on the amount of effort you put into it. In general, you will gain better self-confidence after trying out a number of new activities and you will establish new friendships. On the completion of the program and you have satisfied all the requirements, you will be awarded a certificate from Vision Youth. You will also get certificates from DEA (The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award) and Toastmasters. The DEA is recognized internationally. The experience that you gain is very useful reference for entering university and future career.

From our past experience, teenagers with normal health condition should be able to handle all the outdoor activities. You are required to carry a backpack that contains your personal items for hiking and camping trips. A loaded backpack would weigh about 11-13 kg (25-30 lbs). However, You should seek advice from your family doctor if you have concerns.

Outdoor activity is one of the main features of the Vision Youth program.

Bronze participants will have at least:

  • 1 full-day hiking trip
  • 1 two-day-one-night hiking and camping trip
  • 1 three-day-two-night outdoor leadership camp
We have considered the impact to school work. Most of the activities will be in the summer months. You may have to set aside about 5 hours a month from September to January.
Our program has taken that into consideration. In July, we have Bronze Program sessions on 1 weekday evening (e.g. Wednesday), and the weekends. It should not affect your summer school hours. You may require better time management to set aside time for study and summer course homework.
All participants should have valid OHIP health insurance.
Vision Youth is run by volunteers. We welcome other volunteers to join us as Counselors, Activity Organizers, and Speakers. You can also help by providing financial support. Please contact us with e-mail info@visionyouth.ca
